LIVONIA, MICH. – On February 10 and 11, 2026, future health and physical educators, Alexis Spitzley and Katelyn Mulka, and Dr. Joanna Tremble had the privilege of traveling to our nation’s capital to advocate for federal education funding. The group attended SHAPE America’s SPEAK Out! Day in Washington, D.C. and were joined by 140 educators from across the country representing 40 states.

The two-day event included a prep session on Tuesday reviewing the current status of federal education funding. The group learned how Titles II and IV Parts A of the Every Student Succeeds Act provide opportunities for public elementary and secondary schools to fund diverse programs, like health and physical education.
