Madonna University's Dean of Education and Human Development Recognized as a Notable Leader in Education by Crain's Detroit

LIVONIA, MICH. – Karen Obsniuk, the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Madonna University, has been named a notable leader in higher education by Crain's Detroit. This prestigious recognition highlights her outstanding contribution to the field of education and her unwavering commitment to the success of her students. 

In the Crain's Detroit Article titled 2023 Crain's Notable Leaders in Higher Education, Karen Obsniuk is lauded for her transformative work at Madonna University. Under her leadership, the College of Education and Human Development has undergone significant growth and innovation. She spearheaded the expansion of online course offerings and the introduction of an education doctoral program, making quality education more accessible to students. 

Karen's dedication to her students and community is truly remarkable. She played a pivotal role in streamlining education requirements and worked alongside Wayne County RESA to advocate for a substantial $1.6 million federal grant. This grant has greatly assisted 40 aspiring teachers, many of whom are immigrants working as classroom aids, in pursuing their dreams of becoming educators.

Her tireless commitment to the field of education and her students is a testament to her passion for developing future classroom leaders. 

But Karen's impact doesn't stop at Madonna University's campus. She has actively engaged with the state of Michigan to develop a new scoring system for teacher certification programs, demonstrating her commitment to raising the standards of education across the region. Additionally, she serves on the boards of Public School Academies of Detroit and the Living and Learning Enrichment Center, further solidifying her dedication to enhancing educational opportunities for all.

She helps students reach their potential by holding them to high expectations. Karen truly cares for each individual student and does all that is in her power to help them succeed."
