LIVONIA, MICH. – Madonna University is set to introduce a varsity esports program in fall 2025, expanding its athletic opportunities and aligning with the university's growing technology-focused academic programs.
"We're excited to bring the world of esports to Madonna University Athletics," said Noel Emenhiser, Madonna's Director of Athletics. "This is a great opportunity to expand our athletic offerings and foster transformation and relationships that help develop young people."
The esports program will be a co-ed team competing in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), joining 12 other institutions in recognizing esports as a sanctioned varsity sport. A nationwide search is currently underway to select the inaugural head coach who will build the program.
The university is positioning esports as more than just a competitive activity, but as an opportunity to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and to represent the university in a rapidly growing industry. The program will particularly complement Madonna's E-sports and Gaming Administration certificate.
