LIVONIA, MICH. – The Madonna University baseball team won the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament title after defeating Concordia University 9-7 in game two of the best-of-three series.
Concordia took an early lead with a two-run home run, but Madonna responded with solo home runs from Anthony Sharkas and Alex Garbacik to cut the deficit and take the lead. Concordia's Drew Fleming hit two home runs to give his team a 5-4 lead, but Madonna answered with three solo home runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Alex Garbacik, Jace Matkin, and Brady Krzciok hit the homers to secure the win. Nate Blain started on the mound for Madonna, striking out nine in five innings, and Dustin Cummins earned the win in relief. Garbacik led the offense, going 3-of-5 with two home runs and three RBIs, while Matkin was 3-of-5 with two home runs and two RBIs.
Madonna will now wait for the NAIA Opening Round selection show on Thursday, May 11th.
