A bit of history about the Madonna University Lyric Theatre productions... they have been producing musicals, operas, and director-written shows since 2003. Founded by director, Assoc. Professor Barbara Wiltsie, it first began with collaborative productions with then Marygrove College of Detroit. The company then presented scenes and specialized shows for campus events. In 2007, our performance venue, Kresge Hall went through its first stage of renovation of enlarging the stage. 2008 marked the first full-musical production to a sold-out performance of Godspell. Since that time, Kresge Hall went through continual renovations of lighting/curtains/sound which created a space for giving up-close and personal, fully theatrical productions, such as the musicals: Into the Woods, Urinetown, Children of Eden, Guys & Dolls, Phantom of the Opera, Once Upon A Mattress, A Christmas Carol, The Secret Garden, Little Women, Little Shop of Horrors. And such operas as: The Magic Flute, Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus Act Two, Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing, Rumpelstiltskin, Cendrillon, Brundibar. The 2020-21 school year led to a video-taped performance of director written and compiled show, A Masked Retrospect. In April of 2021 the company was successful in performing Into the Woods - Act One for a smaller audience. During each production, our performers wore specialised singer's masks.
Lyric Theatre gives ALL STUDENTS opportunities to try the stage out, even if the performer is inexperienced. THERE IS ALWAYS A PLACE FOR EVERYONE!
