Writing Center Extracurriculars
An open house, scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, will celebrate the relocation of CPI, TRIO, and the Writing Center to the Library. Enjoy snacks and beverages and chat with staff members of each department. These three student-supporting departments are now within easy reach of each other.
Madonna Pen, our campus writing group, will meet from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Writing Center’s new home in the Library on the following Fridays: September 21, October 19, November 16, January 18, February 15, and March 15. Newcomers are welcome and the pizza is free!
MU Voices, Madonna’s literary blog, is seeking submissions for its fall 2018 issue. E-mail your poetry, essays, fiction, creative non-fiction, prayers, song lyrics, photographs, scanned artwork, and/or video links to firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline: 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 16.
Long Night Against Procrastination is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 and 7-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2019. Librarians and CPI/TRIO/Writing Center tutors will be on hand to help students who are scrambling to catch up with their research, writing, and other class assignments. We provide snacks and coffee.
Open mic runs from 8-10 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, and Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome. Some participants read what they wrote for MU Voices, some read other original work, some read from authors they admire. We’ve had students act out skits, do comedy riffs, sing solos or duets, performed spoken word poetry, or even play the Bulgarian bagpipes. Free punch and pizza!
