As fall 2026 move-in approaches, Madonna University is looking forward to welcoming students home for the year ahead. To make the transition as smooth as possible, this guide covers what to expect on move-in day, what’s already waiting in your rooms, and some packing recommendations to help students feel situated on day one.

Move-In Schedule

Move-in for Fall 2026 will take place over two days: Thursday, August 27 for traditional first-year students, and Friday, August 28 for upperclassmen and transfer students. Students should not show up to move-in if they have not received their room assignment from Residence Life in their Madonna email as this confirms your hall, room, and arrival time.

Arrival times are assigned by room number and last name. Students in odd-numbered rooms with last names A-M should arrive at 9:00 a.m., and those with last names N-Z at 10:30 a.m. Students in even-numbered rooms with last names A-M should arrive at noon, and those with last names N-Z at 1:30 p.m.

Students must have a completed Housing Deposit and Housing Application on file prior to move-in. Upon arriving at Madonna, students should make their way to the Franciscan Center for check-in and key pickup. A 20-minute unloading window will be available at each hall before vehicles must be relocated to designated parking.

What Residence Halls Provide

  • Each residence hall room includes the following furnishings
    • Bed frame and twin XL mattress
    • Desk and chair
    • Closet and dresser

Wi-Fi, cable television, and laundry access are also included at no additional cost in all residence halls.

Recommended Items to Bring

Students are encouraged to bring the following items.

  • Bedding
    • Twin XL sheets, blankets, pillows and mattress pad/topper
  • Storage
    • Storage bins or under-bed organizers
    • Hangers
  • Bathroom
    • Shower caddy and shower shoes
    • Towels and personal toiletries
  • Technology & Academics
    • Laptop and charger
      • Please note that Madonna uses Microsoft across campus and in classes, so any laptop that can log into Microsoft works just fine. Madonna doesn’t require any specific brand or model.
    • Backpack and notebooks
    • Surge-protected power strip

Students are encouraged to coordinate with roommates in advance to avoid duplicate items as well as labelling boxes by room number to expedite unloading. A separate bag containing immediate essentials like toiletries, a change of clothes, and your phone/laptop charger is recommended for easy access during the transition into the residence hall.

Things to Know Before Moving In

Here’s a few quick tips from students and staff who have done this before!

  • Francis Hall does not have air conditioning. We recommend bringing a box fan to help keep you cool throughout the first couple of warmer weeks.
  • Make sure to pack light for the season. If you are planning to head home for Thanksgiving, pack as if you’re only staying until then! You won’t be needing your entire winter wardrobe from day one.
  • Keep your move-in crew small. Bringing your whole family can feel like extra hands for unloading, but it’s important to remember that there are others moving in at the same time so hallways, elevators, and parking will fill up fast!
