We have multiple options for nurses seeking preparation for leadership roles in nursing, depending on whether your ultimate career goal is leadership at the unit, department or organizational level.  Choose the path that is the best fit for your passions and career goals.

Nursing Leadership

This 100% online program is designed to prepare nurses for leadership and management roles at the unit and department levels for care delivery and professional support functions. Develop competencies needed to lead contemporary health delivery services using research-based problem solving and decision-making methods, implement effective communication strategies to promote inter-professional collaboration, and apply concepts of stewardship to achieve organizational sustainability.

Coursework includes six core classes reflective of the AACN Essentials of Master’s Education in Nursing (2011), addressing the theoretical and scientific foundation for advanced nursing practice, leadership, policy and advocacy, evidence-based practice and change management.

Courses are taught through the Madonna University College of Nursing and Health and the School of Business. Practicums, consisting of 120 hours of supervised leadership practice can be completed at agencies convenient to the student.

Graduates will be eligible for certification in nursing administration from the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Nursing Administration

Prepares you for a leadership in a variety of clinical settings.  Through a variety of practicum experiences, you will gain both breadth and depth of experience in various upper management and executive role possibilities.

Nursing Administration/Business Administration

Our dual degree graduate program will prepare you to help shape the delivery of health care in a variety of organizational settings including acute care, ambulatory, long-term care, and community based practices. The additional 22 credits beyond the nursing administration degree provides depth of knowledge in marketing, finance and economics, business law and ethics. Class projects will assist you to refine important marketing and financial management skills across the care continuum and complete a research project in the business capstone courses.

Denise Robinson

Shortly after graduating from our dual degree program, Denise was promoted from the role of Site Administrator for Henry Ford Medical Group to Nursing Administrator at Henry Ford Hospital, managing 18 direct reports and more than 750 indirect reports. 

Denise is responsible for all of the medical general practice units as well as e 68 bed medical intensive care beds. She was a Nightingale Award nominee in 2013, and received the 2015 Shadow of a Leader award for Henry Ford Hospital.
