When I chose to study abroad, I was faced with many different challenges, especially with speaking English. I attended the ESL program and I learned the academic skills which were very helpful to prepare for academic studies at Madonna. While I attended the ESL program, I was able to enhance my grammar, writing, vocabulary, and communication skills. Also, the program helped me expand my sights of different cultures and customs and idiomatic uses of English. After I have gone through the ESL program, I was able to be on the Deans’ list every semester earning a nursing degree, what prepared to be a professional nurse at Samsung Medical center in Seoul, South Korea.
Students with no TOEFL scores can take an English placement test upon arrival on campus to determine their English proficiency skills.
Testing is currently conducted by arrangement; for more information please email hbetti@madonna.edu.
- Fee: $25.

I came to this country without knowing the language or having any idea of this country’s customs or culture outside of American movies. It took a lot of hard work and self-discipline to learn not only how to survive but to thrive. I earned my bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering. However, I did not stop there; I started pursuing my Master degree in Mechanical Engineering shortly after I graduated. Today, I work as an entry-level Hybrid Engineer for the Ford Motor Company. Through many uncomfortable experiences and with the help of my teachers and family, I was able to learn English, to the point where I could live and work comfortably here in United States.
