You will gain sound foundations in linguistics, second language acquisition theories, as well as in cultural aspects of language learning, teaching, and assessment with a clear focus on classroom practices. You will receive highly sought TESOL professional credentials, as our program, since its establishment in 1999, gained approval of the Michigan Board of Education for its ESL (NS) Endorsement Coursework and received national recognition from TESOL, the national organization of teachers of English to speakers of other languages. You will find that our faculty work for you, as you balance the demands of your work, family, and graduate studies to further your professional career.
If you are a K-12 teacher who currently has English language learners in your classroom and you would like to learn how to serve their educational needs best, this nine-credit certificate is for you.
Madonna University's state-approved required coursework for NS (ESL) Endorsement consists of 28 credits that are part of the MATESOL program. In addition to completing an approved coursework, the Michigan Department of Education requires that candidates for an ESL Endorsement pass MTTC # 86 and hold a valid teaching certificate.
