As a student in the Madonna MATESOL (Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program you will become part of a diverse, vibrant community of professionals dedicated to ESL education. You will receive highly sought TESOL professional credentials, as our program, since its establishment in 1999, gained approval of the Michigan Board of Education for its ESL (NS) Endorsement Coursework and received national recognition from TESOL, the national organization of teachers of English to speakers of other languages. 4. An interview with the MATESOL Director to discuss a candidate’s relevant past and future professional goals. Those international candidates who are unable to attend an interview are required to send a resume and a statement of purpose describing their relevant past experiences and future professional goals.
Upon arrival on campus, non-native speakers of English who have not provided the English proficiency information listed above will take Madonna University’s English Placement Test. Some students may be required to take one or more ESL courses prior to or simultaneously with the content courses.
If you are a K-12 teacher who currently has English language learners in your classroom and you would like to learn how to serve their educational needs best, this nine-credit certificate is for you.
Madonna University's state-approved required coursework for NS (ESL) Endorsement consists of 28 credits that are part of the MATESOL program. In addition to completing an approved coursework, the Michigan Department of Education requires that candidates for an ESL Endorsement pass MTTC # 86 and hold a valid teaching certificate.

Dr. Domzalski designed the MATESOL program in 1999 and has developed it since its inception.
In the program, he teaches courses in linguistics and second langauge acquisition. He also serves as the student advisor.
Dr. Domzalski brings to his classroom a rich experience of teaching all levels and skills of English for Academic Purposes as well as his background in linguistics, psychology of language, and reading instruction.
In addition to English, he speakes French, Polish, and Russian.

Dr. Gatarek has taught various theoretical courses in the MATESOL program since 2000.
She has been instrumental in shaping the program's curriculum in the areas of research methods, language development, teaching and learning theories, and learning and culture.
Dr. Gatarek brings to her instruction academic knowledge in cognitive psychology and education as well as rich experience in living and studying in different countries.
In addition to English, she speaks Polish and Russian.
