The Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares graduates to function as primary care nurse practitioners for adolescents to older adults at the highest level of nursing practice. Our program places an emphasis on health promotion, translation of evidence based knowledge in support of quality outcomes, guidance and counseling of individuals, and providing care for the vulnerable and underserved. In addition this program will prepare graduates to lead and shape the future of health care through an appreciation of health policy, organizational and systems leadership, and economics and finance.
This 70 credit post BSN to DNP with MSN exit offers both full-time and part-time options for degree completion. The program offers a mix of hybrid, online and on-campus course delivery. Students enrolled in the program will complete 600 hours of direct care to patients in a variety of primary care outpatient settings. Students are exposed to hands on skill development necessary for advanced practice. The DNP project is course based with development beginning toward the completion of the MSN degree. Students will have the opportunity to take the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Certification Exam offered through American Nurses Credentialing Commission (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and obtain Nurse Practitioner specialty certification through the State of Michigan at the time of MSN completion.
Students who have completed their Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees are able to gain employment in healthcare settings, in educational settings, in private practice, as consultants, as writers, or as administrative leaders depending on one’s personal interest and previous experiences.
