Confidentiality It is the practice of the O.D.R. to adhere to the institutional policy regarding confidentiality. The O.D.R. obeys state and federal law protecting the privacy of information submitted by a student. The staff maintains professional and ethical standards in treating service requests.
According to the latest Madonna University Bulletin, 2008-2010, under “Disclosure of Education Records “Madonna University will disclose information from a student’s educational records only with the written consent of the student, except that records may be disclosed without consent when the disclosure is: 1. To school officials who have a legitimate educational interest in the records.”
The types of records submitted to the O.D.R. are not considered an educational record. Instead it is viewed as a medical record and therefore this exception does not apply. Records are defined in the Madonna University student handbook of 2007 page 40, which states: "Records made or maintained by a physician, psychiatrist, psychologist, or other recognized professional or paraprofessional if the records are used for treatment of a student and made available only to those providing the treatment.”
