Campus Crime Alert On April 18, 2012 at 2:40 p.m., in cooperation with the Livonia Police Department, three subjects were apprehended and placed into custody after the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in South Lot B. The suspects are believed to have been involved in the rash of catalytic converter thefts that occurred in Livonia, including the Madonna University campus, within the past five months. Campus Crime Alert During the month of November there were some reported thefts of automobile parts, namely catalytic converters, from vehicles parked in our parking lots. Unfortunately, there has been a rash of these incidents in Southeastern Michigan including Livonia. Thieves can remove a catalytic converter in less than 20 seconds and then sell the catalytic converter to an unscrupulous scrap metal dealer who is after the platinum and other precious metals inside. Our campus is, by nature, open to all sorts of visitors, to say nothing of the hundreds of staff, administrators, faculty and students. We are also located off of a major interstate in a metropolitan area. The Department of Public Safety will continue to convey the best possible services in making the university community as safe and secure as we can. We shall continue to review and improve our patrol methods and to implement additional strategies for the safety and security of all of us. However, as is the case with all such agencies, it is impossible for us to operate in a vacuum. We must have assistance in accomplishing our mission. We must encourage the university community to assist us by routinely being observant and diligent in reporting any suspicious persons or activities immediately to the Public Safety Department at 734-432-5442.
