Gulf Coast Service-Learning

Last year, the Office of Service-Learning hosted an Alternative Spring Break trip to the Gulf Coast to rebuild homes that were destroyed by hurricane Katrina.  A group of 15 students, faculty/staff, and friends of Madonna spent one week in Pass Christian, Mississippi during Spring Break and an additional week in New Orleans.  Everyone did great, meaningful work, had a whole lot of fun, and came back with a changed view of what it means to do service.

This year, the OS-L is conducting its second annual trip to the Gulf Coast to continue its efforts of Katrina relief.  Thirty students and faculty/staff will stay in Biloxi, Mississippi from March 1 through March 8, 2008.  They will volunteer through the Diocesan Office of Long Term Recovery of the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi, MS.  Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Catholic Church in downtown Biloxi will graciously accommodate them for the week.

If you would like more information about the trip, or if you would like to donate money for the cost of transportation, contact Kevin West, director of the Office of Service-Learning at kwest@madonna.edu, (734) 432-5704
