Teaching and Learning

(Special Note: This program is for certified teachers.  Madonna University does not offer a master's level certification program for non-certified individuals.)

The College of Education at Madonna University worked with local area teachers and administrators to develop a master of arts in teaching degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  Our program is constituent-based, an approach that identifies practicing teachers' changing educational needs.  The overarching goal of the program is to enhance the classroom performance of certified teachers by developing teaching skills that effectively promote student learning and motivation.

Teaching and Learning
The Curriculum and Instruction Master of Arts in Teaching degree program is founded on a contemporary view of education that integrates theory and practice to reflect a consensus of what graduate students should know and be able to do.  It is organized around the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards which are widely used as the basis for teacher portfolios.  In addition, the program emphasizes leading edge classroom technology, new developments in curriculum, learning and motivation theory, and a culminating practical school-based project.

The 31-34 semester hour program is marked by a high degree of flexibility and technological mediation.  While most of the program is campus-based, selected courses are taught incorporating significant portions of distance learning.

The early childhood concentration, educational technology concentration, and online instruction concentration in the Teaching Learning master's may be taken in place of electives.  The completion of the early childhood courses and the prerequisites lead to earning the early childhood endorsement, ZA and the educational technology courses lead to the NP endoresement.
