Liberal arts education is an education for life, designed to expand a student’s understanding of significant ideas and issues related to culture and the complexity of the modern world. All undergraduate students are required to complete a program of study which includes a General Education core, as well as requirements of a major.

The General Education requirements are based on eight academic goals and competencies, which integrate career preparation with the liberal arts. The general education goals are organized under the following headings:

  1. Communication
  2. Religious Values
  3. Cultural Traditions
  4. Scientific Inquiry
  5. Personal and Social Environment
  6. World Citizenship
  7. Personal and Professional Development
  8. Significant Content Knowledge

(Specific information about courses that fulfill the General Education requirements can be found in the Undergraduate Bulletin.)
