Nutrition & Food Science

Nutrition & Food Science
The Nutrition & Food Science program is intended for students who are interested in the relationship between food and health, but do not wish to become professional dietitians.  All the courses required for the Dietetics major are available as electives for those majoring in Nutrition & Food Science.

Since they do not wish to become dietitians, students should know that career opportunities require careful selection of second major or minor in another discipline so that the content of this major can be utilized through the skills developed by the second major or minor.  Journalism might well be chosen, for example, for those with good communication skills as a way of sharing their expertise.  Many students who choose a Nutrition & Food Science major complete the major in conjunction with another program:  pre-medicine or pre-physical therapy, for example.  Graduates with a career goal of research with a food company should consider pursuing graduate studies in food science or a related field.
