We offer four undergraduate majors, as well as a masters program in clinical psychology. As you may know, the undergraduate psychology degree is well known for its flexibility and adaptability. Since the field focuses on the study of the human mind and human behavior, a psychology degree is excellent preparation for any position in which you will be working with people. Psychology majors are well positioned in the job market, because of their training in critical thinking and communications. And the degree prepares students well for graduate study in many fields. In December 2000, the CNN Financial Network reported that "with more than 40 percent of undergraduates in the field eventually going on to law school, business school, or some other professional program, the [psychology] major ranks among the highest in post-graduate academic attainment."

The Psychology Department at Madonna University is proud to offer four undergraduate majors. Each major includes a cutting-edge curriculum designed according to national professional guidelines for undergraduate study in psychology. I want to tell you about our two most unique programs: | | The Psychology Major-Business Concentration. This program is designed for students who want to work in the business world with a bachelor's degree, progress in their current jobs, enter a masters program in industrial/organizational psychology, or enter law school or business school. The curriculum combines psychology courses with business courses focusing on either human resources or marketing. A co-operative education (placement in the workplace) experience is required of all students who are not employed full-time. The placement, arranged by the University's co-op program, is an excellent way for students to get a "foot in the door" in an area in which they may pursue employment. | | The Psychology Major-Mental Health Concentration. This program is designed for those who want to work in the mental health field with a bachelor’s degree and/or enter the Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology program at Madonna (or other similar institutions). Students have supervised field placement experience in a mental health setting as a part of their course work. In addition to providing excellent pre-employment training, this field placement experience is invaluable for students considering graduate work in clinical psychology. | Please refer to the document called "Choosing a Psychology Major" for more information on these two programs, as well as the Psychology Major and the Psychology Major-Research Concentration. The Psychology Department also offers the Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology (MSCP) Program. The program is designed to train students to conduct clinical assessment and treatment for adults and children. Through a combination of classroom and practicum-based learning, the program prepares students to pursue a limited license in psychology from the state of Michigan. Please refer to the document called "Overview of the MSCP Program," and the FAQ document, for answers to all of your questions about the MSCP. The Psychology Department includes four full-time faculty members with doctoral degrees, as well as 15 adjunct faculty members, 9 of whom hold doctoral degrees. Our department has a reputation for putting students first, through providing excellent advising and classroom instruction. We would welcome the opportunity to answer your questions about our programs. Feel free to e-mail us at dbond@madonna.edu with questions about the undergraduate programs and Jane Kessler, MA, Administrative Director of the MSCP Program at jkessler@madonna.edu with questions about the graduate program. Sincerely, Dorella Bond Associate Professor and Chairperson Psychology Department | | Graduate School Home Page |
