Literacy Education

Dr. Ruth FreemanThe Master of Arts in Teaching with a specialty in Literacy Education is a graduate degree program designed to enable classroom teachers certified at the elementary, middle school, or secondary level to develop the competencies that qualify them as reading specialists according to the criteria of the International Reading Association and the Michigan Department of Education.

Literacy Education
The recently released National Academy of Science report on reading instruction highlighted the importance of early literacy instruction supported by highly trained reading specialists. Graduate students in Madonna University's Master's program in Literacy Education learn to be more complete classroom teachers and to be reading specialists capable of providing direct instruction to students and supportive services to teachers.

The program is open to P-12 teachers and is based on the professional standards of the International Reading Association and the Michigan Department of Education.
