Department history/mission In response to the demand for a major specifically addressing the need to teach high school students the practical fundamentals of print, oral, visual, and electronic media, the English and Communication Arts Department, in conjunction with the College of Education, designed the Communication Arts for Secondary Teachers major. It provided future teachers with a firm grounding, encompassing both theory and practice, in practical writing, print production, speech, and television/video communications. Our goal is to create graduates ideally prepared to impart to their students the essential skills for real-world communication, while installing in them a love, understanding, and appreciation of both the literary and non-literary components of the English Language Arts.
