Student Responsibilities

 

1.                  Know myself

2.                  Initiate contact with my advisor

3.                  Learn about and adhere to institutional policies and procedures as

                published

4.                  Prepare for advising sessions bringing appropriate materials

                           (Undergraduate Bulletin, prior Plans of Study if applicable) and

                            questions

5.                  Follow through on actions identified during advising sessions

6.                  Evaluate the advising system when requested

7.                  Request advisor re-assignment if necessary

8.                  Accept responsibility for academic decisions

 

 

Advisor Responsibilities

 

1.                  Provide a welcoming point of contact for students as they begin, and

                            then traverse their education

2.                  Pro-actively contact advisees on a regular basis

3.                  Know the institutional requirements, policies and procedures

4.                  Establish and maintain advising hours

5.                  Inform students about the advising partnership

6.                  Interpret & explain institutional policies & procedures

7.                  Help students define and develop realistic goals

8.                  Assist students to plan a reasonable program

9.                  Approve designated educational transactions

10.              Discuss the connections between the major and careers
