Special Pinning Ceremony for Nursing Grads
May 10, 2016
LIVONIA, Mich. – Nearly 70 nursing graduates recently took part in a special graduation ceremony in which they received their nursing pin from either a Madonna nursing faculty member, their preceptor, or a relative who is a nurse.
Held at the Italian American Banquet Center, the pinning ceremony was coordinated by the graduates and the master of ceremony was Corinne Kee, nursing associate professor. Inspirational remarks were delivered by Nursing Professor Therese Jamison. Nursing graduate Lois Gagnon, of Goodrich, Mich., spoke to her classmates as well.
The Nursing Excellence Award went to male nurse Corey Bedra, of Allen Park, and the Dean’s Award was presented to Rebecca Stewart, of South Lyon. Athletic Director Bryan Rizzo acknowledged Blaire Schmalenberg, of Sterling Heights, as a scholar athlete for having successfully completed her nursing degree while also playing soccer for four years.
As each graduate came forward to receive their pin, a slide of their baby picture and current picture was shown on the large screen. Following the pinning the graduates recited the Nightingale Pledge.
Carole Booms, Madonna alumni director, presented the graduates with an alumni pin and welcomed them to the Alumni Association. Brother Jim O’Brien, nursing faculty member, gave the closing prayer.
