MCC Awards Venture Grant for S-L Class
Dr. Kenneth Thiel was awarded a Michigan Compact Campus Venture Grant for a project entitled “Brain Awareness: Sparking Scientific Inquiry” in the amount of $3,500. This co-curricular service project addresses the general need for neuroscience education in today’s primary schools. College students will prepare and present lessons to third-fifth graders that will highlight the importance of the brain and brain research. The elementary students will benefit from a thorough introduction to the inner workings of their brains, and the college students will benefit from the experience of communicating extremely difficult topics with effective teaching strategies. The ultimate goal will be to spark scientific inquiry in young children, and to develop an overall interest in brain health.
