Auditions and Entrance Requirements Auditions for new and transfer students are held during February, March and May (see Calendar of Events for this year's dates). Summer dates may be arranged by special appointment. Please contact the Department Chair for details. All students applying for Music academic programs       1.   Pass a basic theory skills test or show equivalent skills.     2. Submit two recommendation forms with comments from a teacher, principal, etc. The sealed form will be submitted by mail or delivered by candidate at the audition. Audition Recommendation Form      3. Perform audition required for the academic program as listed below.   Bachelor of Arts | General Music and Music Management Concentrations   Applied Music Audition Music majors pursuing a Bachelor of Arts must show sufficient skill in their chosen applied instruments to succeed in the Theory sequence and upper-division music courses.   Instrument or voice: one selected piece    Bachelor of Music | Church Music, Film Music Scoring, Music Education, and all Performance Concentrations   Applied Music Audition All music majors are required to pass an applied music audition in their primary instrument.     Music Education,  Church Music (Organ, Piano, Voice), and Film Music Scoring Concentrations    •  Brass, Strings, Winds: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles (etudes, movements of a sonata), major and minor scales.     •  Guitar: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles (etudes, studies, movements of a sonata),  major and minor scales.     •  Harp: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles.     •  Organ: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles.     •  Piano: One piano piece that demonstrates your facility at the piano.     •  Vocal: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles, preferably in different languages, one piano piece that demonstrates your facility at the piano.     Performance Concentrations    •  Brass, Strings, Winds: two prepared pieces in contrasting historical styles (sonata, suite, concerto), major and minor scales, sight reading     •  Guitar: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles (studies, etudes), major and minor scales, sight reading     •  Harp: two prepared pieces in contrasting styles, one orchestral cadenza or excerpt of your choice     •  Organ: two prepared pieces in contrasting historical styles, sight reading     •  Piano: two prepared pieces in contrasting historical styles (Bach prelude/fugue from Well-Tempered Clavier, Classical sonata, Romantic character piece, Contemporary, etc.), major and minor scales, sight reading     •  Vocal: two contrasting art songs or arias in different languages, memorized; sight reading with numbers, solfeggio, or neutral syllables Music Minors We enthusiastically welcome music minors into our program. Applied music requirements for this area are determined by each faculty member individually. We recommend you take your 10 hours of applied music in one instrument; if you choose to study in more than one area, a majority of the 10 hours must be in one instrument.
