Program Features Students are offered instruction in both Western and Asian art, combining studio art experience, graphic design, and art history guided by specialists in each area. Studens may also explore further development in specific art fields through independent study with a faculty mentor.
A comprehensive portfolio and exhibit representative of students' growth in a particular medium is required of all art majors. Advanced placement credit may be granted based on evaluation of a portfolio of previous art work.
Additional workshops are offered in specialized topics including American and Detroit Architecture, Portfolio Workshop, Chinese and Japanese Art and Gardens, Watercolor Workshop, and American Painting and Sculpture.
Career fields available to graduates include teaching, art direction, graphic design, illustration, painting, sculpting, photography, art restoration, and museum and art gallery work.
