The Department of History seeks to promote intellectual excellence and prepare students for meaningful roles in the contemporary world through a critical study of human experiences through time.
The Master of Arts in History with a focus on United States History in a Global Context program explores American history through extensive reading and research of colonial, middle and modern American times. The program offers electives to study the politics, economy, military and social history of the United States. The Department interprets American history in a global setting by offering courses on modern Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East with attention to their relationship with the United States.
Students conclude their studies with an intellectually exciting capstone seminar integrating their entire graduate experience. Courses are scheduled to be compatible with the personal and professional schedules of students with special attention to working teachers. Hybrid courses combine classroom and online learning experiences allowing students to accelerate their progress while attending one night per week. The History Department's faculty is dedicated to close advising and personal mentoring to aid in each student's success.
