The mission of Madonna University's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is to instill intellectual inquiry by providing candidates with a wide variety of problem-solving strategies and a deeper understanding of numeration, arithmetic, number theory, patterns, investigation, verification, reasoning, proof, applications and connections. The Department promotes learning with understanding to enable graduates to apply their skills in the K-8 curriculum and enhance student learning.

The Mathematics for Elementary Certification program offers a bachelor's degree or a minor. Student learning is enhanced by integrating technology, manipulatives, and investigation in the classroom through the use of graphing calculators and other software, base 10 blocks, fraction manipulatives and many other hands-on materials that aid in the understanding and teaching of mathematics. Madonna University's faculty encourages students to reason mathematically, be active problem solvers and become independent learners of the subject. Student collaboration is facilitated by small class sizes allowing opportunities to learn from peers and greater interaction between instructors and students.
