Students study OSHA, MIOSHA and NFPA standards, codes and regulations and the rationale behind their development while investigating numerous job-related safety and health hazards associated with a wide range of occupations and workplace environments. Analysis of factors in building structures and the use of tools and materials that lead to accidents leads to safety awareness to prevent or reduce occupational accidents. Students are equipped with hands-on training in the use of instruments that measure and evaluate occupational hazards including the sampling and surveying of noise level, heat exposure, oxygen deficiency, combustible vapors and other dangers.
