The mission of the Department of Gerontology is to prepare students to address the concerns of an aging population and to promote the potential of people in their later years.
The Certificate of Completion in Dementia Care program focuses on the person-centered care of individuals who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Core content on causes and concerns is coupled with skill-building assignments to prepare students to address the needs of dementia residents at various stages of memory loss as well as the needs of their families. Upon successful completion, students find employment in memory care units, adult day care programs, agencies conducting caregiver support groups, etc.
