The field of communication examines how humans use verbal and nonverbal symbols to create and interpret messages between individuals, groups and organizations. Guided by its classical roots, communication addresses the persuasive power of discourse and its role in democratic societies. The faculty at Madonna University respects the power of communication and seeks to develop graduates who are civic minded and ethical communicators.
Students choose from one of three tracks: Public Advocacy, Oral Communication or Organizational Communication. All Communication Studies majors begin with a common core of courses that address key elements of the field: verbal and nonverbal symbols, listening, argument and persuasion, and communication contexts from interpersonal to public to mass media. This broad-based approach prepares students for graduate level specialization or entry into the professional job market.
